/PERANAKAN/ means “locally born.” A culture that grew from Chinese and Malay roots into something entirely its own.

That mix is what we hoped to honour in /PERANAKAN/. A heritage home reimagined gently, for the way families live in Singapore today. Told one small detail at a time.

Green was a colour that meant a lot in Peranakan homes. It stood for harmony, and it found its way into everything from the porcelain to the tiled walls.

So we leaned into it here. Deep green kitkat tiles, warmed by timber, with a mirror frame shaped by the same hands that built the joinery downstairs.

Even the patterned floor quietly ties back to the rest of the home.

It is the smallest room in the house. We just liked the idea of giving it as much care as any other.

In old Peranakan homes, the flowers painted on the walls were never just decoration. Each one carried a quiet wish.
For luck, for long life, for a happy marriage.

We wanted the /PERANAKAN/ bedroom to hold onto that idea. It starts with the botanical panel behind the bed, framed like a piece of art rather than a backdrop.

Above it, a strip of soft light tucked into the timber, so you feel it more than you see it. Bamboo blinds let the afternoon in gently.

Those patterned Peranakan floor tiles? Once shipped all the way from Europe, back when a beautiful floor was something families took real pride in.

We wanted /PERANAKAN/ to carry a little of that feeling. Look at the arches. The fine raised trim outlining each one is a small thing, but it is the kind of detail that quietly makes a space feel considered.

Then look up. A framed panelled ceiling with a decorative plaster centrepiece. A staircase lined with those same patterned tiles, its timber railings turned by hand.

Heritage we hope feels warm and lived in. Not the kind kept behind glass.

The kitchen in /WAVELENGTH/ is restraint done right. Nothing loud, nothing wasted. Every surface considered, every line quiet on purpose.

Lighting isn’t a layer you add at the end. In /WAVELENGTH/, it‘s the thing everything else was designed around. Watch what happens when you stop treating it as an afterthought.

Same walls. The curves weren‘t there yet.
Every fluid line in /WAVELENGTH/ had to be mapped, built, and smoothed before it could breathe. A little dust, a lot of intention. The result makes the in-between worth it.

Started as a brief that played it safe. Until it didn’t. We pushed the ceiling into curves, let light spill across every junction, and built a space that moves with you instead of around you.

Cement screed floors set the mood without stealing it. Low-slung furniture keeps things grounded. And just when you think it’s playing it safe, a burst of color reminds you it absolutely isn’t.
